Home Security - Tips
Home Security Coach

When people think of home security they often think of the night. Believe it or not most home burglaries happen during the day when people are away from home working or at school. Through crime records published by the F.B.I. it has been determined your home is most likely to be burglarized during the hot summer months of July and August. The month your home is least likely to be burglarized is February. Nationally one home out of six will be burglarized this year. If that isn't reason enough to get a security system I don't know what is. Most burglars target items in the home that can be easily carried out such as stereos, jewelry boxes, and guns all of which can be easily pawned on the street.

Home Security - Tips

One of the first tips the home security coach will provide you is your security locks. Over half of all completed home burglaries are completed by thieves who walked in through an unlocked door of the home or who found a window unlocked. Your families security depends on you making sure all of the windows and doors in your home are locked no matter if you are home or away from your home.

A vital part of your security system is making sure you have sturdy adequate locks on all doors of your home. Security experts recommend you make sure every external door of your home has a sturdy well installed security deadbolt lock. Key-in-the-knob locks are not enough. Make sure the doors and windows of your home are of high quality and fit properly.

As part of your security plan for your home take a thorough look at the outside of your home and and ask yourself if I were a burglar where would I hide around your home and how would I get into the house.

Thieves hate a home with bright outside lights. Install high intensity lights and keep them on through the night.

Keep the outside of your home neat. By keeping bushes trimmed around your home you won't provide thieves the security of having a place to hide as they work to get into your home.

Another security tip is to never let your mail or newspapers pile up outside your home. This is a sure sign to a burglar that the home is unoccupied.

If you travel use various light timers throughout the house to give the appearance someone is at home.

Consider buying a security system for your home. Home security systems at reasonable prices are more plentiful than ever. Consult with friends and neighbors to find out what security systems they use, along with using the internet for research or special offers on home security systems.

Make sure everyone in your home knows how to operate the security system properly and only do business with reputable home security firms.

You may also want to consider one of the do-it-yourself home security systems on the market today. Many of which can be easily installed in your home and some even provide wireless home security.
