Home Security - Doors and Windows

Locks and Doors - Home Security Checklist

Are all locks and doors of solid construction?

Do entranceways ways doors to your home have a sturdy deadbolt lock? Remember one of the best ways to increase home security is to make your home look like a hard security target.

Do your security doors have large peepholes at heights even children can use?

Where are your spare home keys kept?

Hopefully not under a planter or welcome mat. Burglars know all of the places to look.

Are door frames reinforced? Often burglars simply kick a door in. By reinforcing your door frames you increase the security of your home dramatically.

Windows in doors look great, but if they are within 40 inches of the door lock they can be broken and reached through for the burglar to unlock providing him access to your home.

Can the entrance of your home be observed from the street or neighbors of your home?

Sliding Door Security- Home Security Checklist

The sliding glass door of your home should have strong working security locks.

A dowel or pin should be placed on your sliding glass door to keep it from being lifted out of its track.

Keep valuables away from windows. Don't tempt the burglar into breaking into your home by having rewards within plain view.

This ends our home security checklist for exterior doors and windows. In our next home security checklist we'll review what measures you can take to increase the security of your garage.
