Nothing screams the inhabitants of this home are away on vacation more than a stack of newspapers piling up. The same can be said for mail. Weeks before leaving home contact your newspaper and mail person and have them stop delivering to your home.
Setup three different lights on timers to go on and off periodically. A thief casing the security of your home will see this and assume someone is home.
Anytime you leave home double check to make sure youve set the home security system. Notify the monitors of your home security system that you will be traveling and there shouldnt be any activity at your home.
Let your neighbors know you will traveling away from home and advise them of who should be around your home.
The best way to increase your home security while traveling is take your time the day of departure from your home and make sure all of the ways youve increased your home security are in full effect. Make sure all doors and windows are locked.
Replace older bulbs on your security lighting. You dont want your lights to fail while you are traveling.
In the Winter make arrangements for someone to shovel your walk if you live in a snowy area. Another dead give away is a lawn that hasnt been mowed in weeks.
Dont leave anything of value in plain sight of windows. You want your home to appear secure and not tempt the burglar to break in.
