Increasing Your Home Security and Doors


Heres a simple list to provide you with information to determine if the doors of your home are offering you the safety, security and protection you and your family need.

Is the door frame strong enough to withstand a kick or pry bar?

Is the door made of solid wood or metal construction?

Is there glass in the door or windows on the side within three feet of the inside lock?

Is the secure secured by a deadbolt lock that extends into the door frame a minimum of 1 Inch?

Is the area the lock goes into the door frame reinforced with long metal or steel and how long are the screws going into the door frame? We recommend screws going into the frame and stud a minimum of three inches.

Can the lock be reached in any manner from the outside such as a pet door or with a hanger through the mail slot?

Is there landscaping obscuring the sight of anyone at the door?

Do you have a peep hole to identify who is at the door?

Is the door and surrounding area lit so you can identify who is at the door or your neighbors can see someone at your door?

If you answered no to any of these questions then you need to examine the level of security your door is providing. Keep in mind securing your home doesnt just mean your primary entrance. Home security takes place at every door to your home including the garage door.
