Each year thousands of forced entries into homes occur when someone unknowingly opens their front door to their assailant. By installing a home security camera to monitor your front door, youll be able to see the person at your front door without having to open the door to them. Simply switch your TV monitor to the station monitoring your home security camera and youll have a birds eye view of whomever is at the door before considering opening the door. Youll be able to monitor how the person is acting and providing your security camera is hooked up to a master system youll even have video tape of the person at your front door.

Some home security cameras even offer two way communication so you can ask through the camera who is at the door and what the nature of their business is at your home. They may say its a package delivery service, however if they dont have a uniform on chances are youre dealing with a potential criminal.

When installing security cameras youll need to decide how many are adequate and should you have one at each entrance or just your front door. Keep in mind the cost will go up with each security camera you have installed. In addition you will need a power source near each door to provide electricity to the unit or you may want to consider using a battery operated remote wireless cameras.

Regardless if you decide to install a home security camera or not if you have any doubts about who is at your front door do not open the door. Call your local Police Department and ask them to swing by to check the I.D. of the person at your home. If the person at your front door has legitimate business at your house then they wont mind talking to the police. Remember in a gray situation its always better to be safe than sorry.
