The only thing a burglar hates more than a security system is a dog. Dogs make noise and bring attention and burglars dont want attention. The larger your watch dog the greater the level of security. Some burglars may scoff at a small dog barking, but the sound of a large dog such as a German shepherd or Pit Bull will leave most burglars looking for an easier target. Remember burglars want an easy place to break into with quick access and exits, very little security and certainly not a home security system. The fact you have a watch dog will greatly raise your home security.
Dont just buy a dog to raise home security. A watchdog will make your home more secure, but keep in mind dogs need lots of attention and at times will cost you money. If you are ready to accept the responsibility of a dog then consider purchasing a breed known for its watchdog capabilities in order to maximize your home security.
If you already have a dog theres a good chance you can use him or her as a watchdog. Reward your dog when he brings something to your attention or when he barks at strangers. Most dogs will pick up on the attention they receive when they spot something out of place around your property and take to it quickly as a way of receiving attention. A few home security companies are selling systems that activate a barking dog sound when motion is detected in the yard of a home or when someone rings the doorbell in hopes of giving the impression a dog is on the premises.
One cheap home security suggestion is to put beware of dog signs in the yard and a couple of large dog dishes on the front porch in plain sight. Most criminals and people would assume you have a dog and from the sizes of the bowls he is a large dog. Let the human mind take it from there.
