FBI Crime Statistics - 2006 Preliminary Report

The FBI recently issued their preliminary Uniform Crime Report. This is the preliminary report to be followed by actual Uniform Crime Report. The report entails the entire United States. The figures from the report shows and increase in violent crime of 1.3% versus 2005. Its important to note this only reflects the amount of violent crime brought to the attention of law enforcement agencies across the United States.

Property Crime Decreases


The preliminary reports shows the amount of property crime across the U.S. decreased by 2.9% when compared to 2005. Property crime includes burglaries, theft and motor vehicle theft. Figures for 2006 show that arson increased 1.8 percent compared to 2005.

Cities the size of five hundred thousand to one million had the greatest increase in property crimes.

These are only preliminary numbers. More comprehensive numbers will be available in September of 2007 when the FBI publishes the official report.
