Garage Doors and Home Security
If your garage is attached to your home then you are especially susceptible if your garage doesnt have the same level of security as the rest of your home. Most garages do provide access to the home with a lesser quality door than your standard outside door. In addition once the burglar is in the garage hell have all the concealment he needs to methodically pick the lock on the door and might even use some of the tools laying around in the garage to disable your home security.
Here are some tips for raising the home security of your garage.
Always keep your garage door down even if you are just running a quick errand.
Cover garage door windows with a cheap curtain or frost the windows yourself so a potential burglar cant see if your car is in the garage or isnt.
Consider adding a security door between your garage and the house.
Do not leave your car unlocked in the driveway. A burglar can walk up to the car and hit the garage door opener to have easy or easier access to your home.
Make sure your garage door opener has lights that turn when the opener is activated. This allows you to see into your garage before actually entering.
Make sure your home security system is connected to your garage door as every other door of the house should be.
