What A Burglar Sees In Your Home
According to one study most burglars return to a home they once robbed. In this same study of expert burglars more than half of them had some familiarity as to who lived at the home. Many of the burglars interviewed said they would regularly watch for electronics boxes such as televisions or computers in peoples trash and essentially did an inventory of home by watching the trash over several weeks. When they saw a home with many new products they would then put it on their list to rob. Some of these so called expert criminals werent deterred by alarm systems or security locks, although many said if they saw a dog they would look for another target to rob. Some of these criminals also bragged of having a sixth sense when it came to which houses to rob and which to walk away from.
Coincidentally in another study on home burglary many of the burglars described how they went through a house once inside as almost routine. So many of the locations of specific good matched past burglars they described it as routine going from room to room of the house or apartment.
Some of these burglars would actual take orders for goods and then set out to find a house or apartment with similar goods. Thats how confident they are in their skills and their abilities to defeat your home security.
In yet another study one burglar said the first thing he looked for when driving up and down a street was what do the windows look like in each home. Open windows or windows with weak metal around him were always his favorite way of entering a home. The same convicted burglar claims he has robbed more homes than he can remember. He stated he would wear workmans type clothes as if he were a Contractor or Utility Worked. He would be around the neighborhood for about a week which would allow him enough time to know peoples routines such as when they went to work and who did and didnt have home security systems. People would see him all the time, however since he had the look of a service person few if any would give him a second glance. Once he began robbing homes in the neighborhood he would try to do several in a day or as many as he could over a week until he saw the increased police presence.
As youve read above many burglars are very confident in their profession and their abilities to spot a home with weak home security and pull off a burglar. As you read through the many articles on this website please try to put yourself in the mind of a burglar and how they would react to increase security and protection systems.
