Burglar alarms are simple in nature. So simple you might be surprised to know how easily they operate to protect your family and home from burglary or home invasion. Many people consider alarms and home security system as complex units that are hard to use. Burglar alarms twenty years ago were definitely harder to use, but thankfully with increases in technology and home consumer demand for burglar alarms and security systems manufacturers have made them much easier to use. In fact most modern televisions are harder to use than your average burglar alarm system. Some people have the fear of having false alarms as their number one reason for not installing a burglar alarm or home security system. People don't understand that today's home security systems rarely have false alarms and even if you do accidentally set off the alarm you can easily cancel it by entering your security code.

How Burglar Alarms Work

There are two types of burglar alarm systems. The first is the closed circuit system where the contacts on a door complete the circuit back to the burglar alarm system. As long as the door doesn't open and break the circuit the security alarm will not activate, however if the circuit is broken by opening the door the security alarm activates.

The second type of burglar alarm system is the open circuit. In this type of system opening the door closes the loop back to the burglar alarm system which allows electricity to flow and activates the burglar alarm system.

Once again, don't allow the prospects of having a false alarm scare you. There are millions of burglar alarms in use every moment of the day and if false alarms were such a big deal there would be police cars lining the streets heading to the next false alarm call. If you were to set your burglar alarm off by mistake you simply enter in your security code. In addition most burglar alarm companies will call your home to verify it truly was a false alarm before dispatching the police or fire departments.
