Staying Safe This Holiday Season

The holidays are upon us and for most this is the busiest time of the year. It is also a perfect time for a criminal to plan a burglary against your home. Think of it this way a burglar needs money for the holidays as well and what better time to rob a home than when it is filled with brand new gifts that can be sold on the street or taken back to the retailer for cash. In addition with all the holiday activity people are out of their homes more than ever.

Many municipalities report in an increase in burglaries around the holidays. One of the best ways to keep your home from being burglarized is to install a burglar alarm system. Most burglars will see the presence of a burglar alarm and going looking for an easier home to rob without a burglar alarm in place.

If you are traveling this holiday season make sure to notify your local police department and request they do additional drive bys around your home. In addition let your neighbors know you will be away from home and let them know who should or shouldn’t be around your home.

Another way to keep your home safe around the holidays is to never put boxes gifts came in out at the curb for refuse pickup. This is like shopping for candy to a criminal as they simply need to cruise the neighborhood the night before garbage collection and see who received what goodies for Christmas and what home looks like it will offer the greatest rewards to rob.
