One of the most frequent places a burglar will choose to enter your home is through the patio door. Not only are these doors in the rear of the house where most burglaries occur, but they are also often left open or the locks on them are very cheap and easily broken. Many people fail to lock their patio doors altogether as they feel a thief will enter through the front of the house and believe the back of the house is more secure. This just isn’t true. The burglar will feel more secure in the back of the house out of the way of any street traffic.

Patio Door Security

One of the easiest and effective ways to prevent a burglar from entering your home through the patio door is by simply cutting an old broom handle and placing it in the track of the door. Although this is far better than no security at all a burglar can still attempt to lift the door out of its track which is always a concern. There are a number of small inexpensive locks on the market to prevent a burglar from doing this. In addition there are security devices designed to take the place of a broom handle in the track of the door which will withstand much more pressure than any makeshift security device.

The important part is you take steps to improve the security of your home. A broom handle in the track of your patio door is much better than relying on the cheap lock most patio doors come with. Take another step in improving your home security by securing your patio door.
