In this article the Coach will give you some simple tips for making your home safer from invasion or robbery. Some of these tips are very inexpensive to do and will go a long way toward improving the safety of your home or apartment. Remember that is not always the house that is the most secure, but the house that appears to be most secure that leaves a burglar looking for another location to rob or invade. So here are the Coach’s tips for making your home safer.

Install yard and window signs around your home advertising the fact you have a home security system in place. These signs and decals can be acquired on E-Bay very inexpensively regardless if you do or don’t have an alarm system in place chances are it will leave many burglars looking for another home or apartment to rob.

Most Burglars hate light so make sure each side of your home has motion sensor lights installed.

Don’t give a burglar somewhere to hide. Trim bushes and shrubs so the burglar can’t hide from your neighbors or others on the street.

Install only quality locks to your home. Consider upgrading your doors and windows to make your home more secure.

Have a peephole installed in your door so you can see who is ringing your doorbell. If you have any doubt at all do not open the door. If the person claims to be a utility worker then verify with the utility company before ever opening the door.

Install a reinforced patio door lock. Behind the home via a patio door is a common entrance for thieves. Many patio door locks are of low quality.

Don’t leave tools in the yard or garage where a burglar of opportunity can get at them to use them to enter your home or apartment.

Consider installing a home security system.

Walk around the exterior of your home pretending to be a thief asking yourself does this home look secure. In addition you should ask yourself how you would break into this home.

You may, or may not have a dog, but chances are when the burglar sees a big dog dish on your front stoop he’ll assume you do. Burglars don’t like dogs; they make noise and could potentially hurt them. Once again most likely the burglar will go looking for another home or apartment to rob.

These simple steps can greatly increase the security of your home and more importantly the protection of your family. Although most are simple steps they still require you to take action. It has to happen to someone so lose the train of thought that it won’t happen to me.
